Oklou with new album live in Zurich
Oklou's deluxe album builds on the warm production of "choke enough" and its mix of ambient textures and minimalist club rhythms. The project features four new songs that expand the universe of the existing album, including Oklou's single "viscus" featuring FKA twigs. The announcement follows Oklou's stunning "Tiny Desk" performance, in which she played marimba and piano alongside an eight-piece choir, as well as her cover story for Pitchfork, for which journalist Anna Gaca traveled to Pau, France, to reflect on her breakthrough year and artistic evolution.
Oklou was also recently featured on PinkPantheress' remix album "Fancy Some More?" on the track "Girl Like Me". Named one of the best albums of the year by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Billboard, The FADER and Stereogum, and awarded France's Le Prix Joséphine as Album of the Year, "choke enough" has cemented Oklou's status as an iconic outsider pop star. In the wake of the album's success, Oklou has received high-profile support from Billie Eilish, who remarked, "Honestly, she's the first thing I've been excited about in a long time," Rosalía,Lorde and Ethel Cain, who added, "I'm obsessed with this album, it's like they made pop music for insects."
Oklou, born Marylou Mayniel in rural western France, laid the musical foundations with classical piano and cello lessons before falling in love with electronic music production and playing her first gigs in Paris. Her 2020 mixtape "Galore" marked a creative breakthrough, combining introspective songwriting with futuristic sound design. Dazed praised "Galore" as "compositionally sophisticated and sonically cutting-edge".
With "choke enough", Oklou has emerged as one of the most fascinating voices in modern music - combining intimacy and innovation with fearless emotional clarity.
