Chris de Burgh is a singer who has mastered telling stories with his music like no other. He was born Christopher John Davison on 15 October 1948 in Argentina. His father was a British diplomat, which is why the singer spent the first years of his life abroad, including in Zaire, Nigeria and Malta.
When he is 12, the family returns to Europe. There, his life continues at the family castle in Ireland, a former 12th-century Norman fortress on the country's east coast. While still at school, Chris de Burgh learned to play the guitar. During his studies, he also became enthusiastic about playing the piano and gave his first concerts, sometimes solo, sometimes with his band. Along the way, he graduates from the renowned Trinity College in Dublin with a degree in French, English and History.
His passion for music draws the talented young man to London in 1972. Two years later, he signs his first recording contract with A&M Records. On this occasion, he creates the stage name Chris de Burgh from the shortening of his first name and the maiden name of his Irish mother.

With "Lady In Red" Chris de Burgh becomes world famous
In 1974 de Burgh releases his first album entitled "Far Beyond These Castle Walls". The single "Turning Around", later renamed "Flying", is not yet very successful in Great Britain, but a considerable chart success in Brazil. Chris de Burgh goes on tour with the London rock band Supertramp in the same year and gains a small fanbase.
In 1975, the singer-songwriter followed up with the album "Spanish Train And Other Stories", which stayed in the British charts for several weeks. Between 1977 and 1980, "At The End Of A Perfect Day", "Crusader" and "Eastern Wind" were released, which were again less successful. The breakthrough in Germany comes in 1981 with the album "Best Moves", which is received very positively by music journalists.
With "The Getaway" and "Man On The Line", two albums are released in 1982 and 1984, from which rockier chart successes such as "Don't Pay The Ferryman" and "High On Emotion" originate. Chris de Burgh's first worldwide hit was 1986's "Lady In Red", a love song dedicated by the singer to his wife Diane. The single sells over 8 million copies and reaches number 1 in the charts in over 20 countries. Not only the song proves to be a real evergreen: Chris de Burgh is still married to Diane today, and they have three children.
The storyteller with the soft voice
Since the beginning of his career, the reserved singer has been an excellent storyteller. His melodies and fantasy lyrics, often inspired by fairy tales, legends and the surreal, invite us to dream. In many cases, he also processes personal experiences in his songs. Chris de Burgh has released more than 20 albums, and he also ventures into experiments such as small rock operas. If you have one of the sought-after tickets for Chris de Burgh's shows, you can look forward to emotional hours and an excursion into imaginative worlds.
