Making the audible visible—this challenge fascinates photographer and musician Tobias Melle. For years, he has traveled the world to capture his impressions of well-known symphonic works in images. A defining feature of his work is the harmonious translation of musical structures and emotions into associative sequences of images. He personally presents this visual world, composed to accompany the orchestra’s sound—measure by measure, image by image, he fuses music and photography into a total work of art. The “Pastoral in Images” combines Beethoven’s soundscape with striking nature photographs and opens up new perspectives on the masterpiece.
The evening opens with Johannes Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D major, a key work in the violin repertoire. Violinist Raphael Nussbaumer, born in the canton of Schwyz in 2006, will perform this extraordinary work alongside the Lake Constance Philharmonic under the baton of Marcus Bosch. Nussbaumer has already impressed audiences at the Menuhin Competition and the Fritz Kreisler International Violin Competition with his captivating presence. Brahms’s work places high technical demands on the soloist, so much so that some of Brahms’s contemporaries even described it as unplayable. Even Joseph Joachim, one of the most important violinists of the 19th century, advised the composer to simplify certain passages.
