Hans Zimmer is one of the world's most successful film music composers. He has scored countless Hollywood blockbusters and has won the most prestigious international awards for his scores. In addition, Hans Zimmer goes on tour to perform his most famous compositions live on stage with a large orchestra - goosebumps guaranteed, not only for film music fans!
Hans Florian Zimmer was born on 12 September 1957 in Frankfurt am Main. The son of a Jewish family discovers his passion for music at a young age. However, a classical musical education was not in his favour: he clearly lacked discipline and his piano teacher left after only a few lessons.
After graduating from high school, which he did at an English boarding school, Hans Zimmer stayed in England and started composing radio and advertising jingles at the end of the 1970s. He also plays the synthesiser in various bands. Fun Fact: Zimmer can also be seen on the synthesiser in the music video for "Video Killed The Radio Star", which MTV broadcast in 1981.
In 1980, the British film music composer Stanley Myers appointed him as his assistant, and the first smaller commissions followed. Towards the end of the 1980s, Hans Zimmer's meteoric rise began.
Hollywood was not long in coming
.
With his composition for the film "Rain Man" with Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise, Hans Zimmer catapulted directly into the centre of the US film industry in 1989. Soon after, he was scoring numerous action films and making a name for himself with the most respected directors. His unique style has a lasting influence on film music. He himself calls the Italian composer Ennio Morricone his great role model.
In 1995, Hans Zimmer received the world's three most prestigious awards for his orchestral film music for Walt Disney's "The Lion King": the Oscar, the Golden Globe and the Grammy Award. He collected his second Grammy one year later with his music for the feature film "Crimson Tide". In 2022 he was again honoured with an Oscar - for his score for the hit film "Dune" by Denis Villeneuve.
In the course of the following years, more and more important Hollywood filmmakers knocked on Hans Zimmer's door. He provides the film music for major cinema hits such as "Gladiator", "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "The Dark Knight". In 2010, the composer finally gets his own star on the famous "Walk Of Fame".
