At the latest since his hit single "Au Revoir", Mark Forster has been one of the most popular German-language performers of our time. Numerous studio albums and collaborations later, the native of the Palatinate region with his baseball cap, beard and witty words also shines as a likeable TV face in successful formats such as "The Voice of Germany" and "Sing meinen Song".
On 11 January 1983, Mark was born in the small town of Winnweiler. Together with his younger sister, he grew up not far from Kaiserslautern. Until he graduated from the city's grammar school, music accompanied him as a hobby - not suspecting that the early piano lessons would later pay off double and triple.
Mark Forster's first steps towards a career in music
While we know pop star Mark Forster today as a musical multi-talent with an affinity for TV and a voice for cinema, he already demonstrated a wide-ranging interest during his student days. After four semesters, he switched from law to business administration and remained true to the subject until he graduated from the University of Mainz. At the same time, he ventured into the music scene and laid the foundation for his pop career.
Writing TV jingles made him Kurt Krömer's sidekick. Thus, not only the theme tune to "Krömer - Die internationale Show" was written by Mark Forster: in the role of a Polish pianist, he also accompanied the Berlin comedy star during his appearances in Germany from 2007 to 2010. After a hike on the Way of St. James, the decision to advance his own music career ripens.
First stage experiences
The studio located in Forsterstraße has become the second home of the newcomer, who now lives in Berlin. An employee of the record company therefore lists Mark under the pseudonym Mark Forster in his contact directory. Mark Forster steps into the limelight and gains his first experience in the music business as frontman of the band Balboa.
The contract with the renowned label Four Music is not long in coming, but two more years pass before the release of the debut album "Karton" in June 2012. The musician uses the time and accompanies Laith Al-Deen as tour support. The first single "Auf dem Weg" was followed by the first collaboration in November 2013: Mark Forster sings the chorus for Sido's song "Einer dieser Steine" and finds himself in the Top 10 of the German music charts. To this day, collaborations with artists of different genres characterise Mark Forster's versatile portfolio.
Mark Forster sings "Au Revoir", but stays
In 2014, the success story picks up speed. For the debut single of the second studio album "Bauch und Kopf", Mark Forster can count on the support of an old acquaintance: With Sido's rap part in the luggage, "Au Revoir" turns into a real pop anthem that stays in the German charts for 65 weeks. In autumn 2015, the pop star, celebrated by fans and critics alike, returns to his TV roots as a judge on the Sat.1 casting show "The Voice Kids".
Whether as the winner of the "Bundesvision Song Contest", as the duo "Eff" with DJ Felix Jaehn or as the interpreter of the official ZDF song for the European Football Championships in France: Mark Forster seems to have literally leased his professional luck. His third studio album "Tape" brought him further top placings, so that at the end of 2016 he can call himself the most successful German-language musician in the German charts. In addition, Mark Forster once again proves his versatility as the dubbing voice for the animated film "Trolls".
Filmically, the story continues. Mark Forster contributes the German title song to "DuckTales". While he sets the next milestone with the single "Kogong", he flickers across the screen in various TV formats. Sing meinen Song - Das Tauschkonzert" is followed by his debut on "The Voice of Germany". Fellow musician Andreas Bourani leaves Mark Forster the much-coveted red chair and the job of singing coach.
In addition to his judging duties on "The Voice of Germany", Mark Forster is releasing his fourth studio album "Liebe" in 2018.
On the pulse of time: new collaborations and electro beats
Even though Mark Forster is primarily known for catchy pop songs and spoken word vocals in fresh garb, he enthusiastically explores the boundaries to the most diverse musical genres. For his fifth studio album "Musketeers", the newly minted father brings the singers LEA and Mathea on board. The results are so danceable that they are guaranteed not to be missing from any future Mark Forster tour.
At the same time, Mark Forster, ennobled with prizes such as Bambi and Echo, continues his TV career. Another reason to celebrate is the 50th anniversary of the "Sendung mit der Maus", to which Mark Forster is contributing his own song. If you want to see the artist live instead of just on screen, it's best to get tickets for Mark Forster's shows in good time.
