The sympathetic and humorous animal psychologist Martin Rütter deals with the relationship between humans and dogs. He works as a dog trainer and has developed a special training method to improve the interaction between two- and four-legged friends. He writes books on the subject and also appears on television and in stage programs - as a "dog whisperer" and entertainer alike.
Martin Rütter was born on June 22, 1970 in Duisburg. Even as a child, he was interested in the “furry noses”, but he was not allowed to own a dog. According to his own statements, he reads an impressive 200 dog books by the age of 18. After graduating from high school, however, he first studied sports science at the German Sport University in Cologne with the goal of becoming a sports reporter.
He then attended a distance learning course at the Academy for Animal Naturopathy in Switzerland in order to become a sports reporter train animal psychologists. Martin Rütter is also interested in the relatives of domestic dogs that live in the wild: he is doing an internship in a wolf breeding station and studying the way of life of the dingoes during a stay in Australia.

Over the years, Martin Rütter has become an expert on dogs and related species. From his observations and various theories from dog researchers, he developed his own training philosophy DOGS (Dogs Oriented Guiding System), which addresses the individual needs of each dog.
Martin Rütter opened in 1995 the center for people with dogs near Erftstadt. Here his training method shows the often frustrated owners new ways to treat their dogs fairly and consistently. Rütter is finding more and more partners who work with DOGS: A network of over 100 dog schools in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and South Tyrol is spreading the new method.
From dog understander to TV Experts
In 2003, television producer Bettina Böttinger discovered the dog understander for WDR. "A couch for all skins" is a documentary series with two seasons and shows how Martin Rütter works in practice. A year later he gets a leading role in the ZDF advice magazine "Volle Kanne". The title of the series is "On the road with the dog understander".
In 2008, Martin Rütter found a new home at the private broadcaster VOX. Every Saturday he solves tricky problems in "Der Hundeprofi": He visits dog owners in their homes and develops strategies together with them in a therapy phase of three to six months to eliminate the misunderstandings between two- and four-legged friends.
In autumn 2020, VOX will introduce a new format. In “Der Hundeprofi – Rütters Team” colleagues who are being trained as DOGS trainers take on the coaching to bring the relationship between the owner and the fur nose back on track. Martin Rütter himself acts as a supervisor in the background.
Some celebrities don't get along with their animal friends either. Therefore, in 2010, Martin Rütter started the series “V.I.P. dog professional". In it, he helps stars like actor Martin Semmelrogge, presenter Nina Ruge and rapper Eko Fresh deal with their four-legged friends.

A total of almost 500,000 spectators attend the event. The live DVD sold 150,000 copies.
Two years later, the entertainer followed up with his second show "Der tut nix" and toured Germany, Austria and Switzerland with it. The “after sitting” and “acquittal!” programs follow. The tour of the fifth Martin Rütter show "He just wants to play" starts in 2022.
The dog coach is also active as a journalist: he writes columns and books. His novel "Mattes Reuter" is about a freelance journalist who is hired as editor-in-chief of a dog magazine.
