The 2026 Kammermusikwoche will kick off with a cello and piano recital dedicated exclusively to female composers.
Cellist Valentina Dubrovina & pianist Silvia Carlin will perform works by Ethel Smyth, Adolphine Le Beau and Fanny Mendelssohn. The program focuses on female composers of the 19th and early 20th centuries who, despite their artistic talent, were long overshadowed by their male colleagues and rarely received public recognition.
Ethel Smyth combined her compositional work with a committed commitment to women's rights and developed a powerful, independent musical language. Fanny Mendelssohn received just as much musical training as her brother Felix, but was unable to pursue an independent career and published some of her works under his name. Adolphine Le Beau is also one of the most important voices of her time to be rediscovered today - a composer of great stylistic clarity and depth of expression, whose music is only gradually regaining its place in the concert repertoire.
Ten years ago, Valentina Dubrovina and Silvia Carlin met at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel. Their shared passion for rarely performed repertoire and musical discoveries led to the founding of the REVISION Project, which is dedicated to rediscovering forgotten works and making them accessible to a curious audience in carefully designed programs.
