The talent for entertainer and artist is already laid in the cradle Vanessa Mai, as she comes on May 2, 1992 under the full name Vanessa Marija Else Mandekić in Backnang, Baden-Württemberg to the world. Her father Mario is a professional musician and helps his daughter to her first performances at a young age. At the age of seven, Vanessa Mai is already on stage playing the tambourine at her father's performances.
She takes her first steps as a singer just a few years later. At the age of ten, she performs cover songs and it is already apparent what great talent she brings with her. After graduating from school, she took part in the hip-hop world championships in the USA as part of a dance group and trained as a media designer.
First successes with Wolkenfrei
Instead of a career in an agency, however, Vanessa Mai opted for show business. In 2012, the then 20-year-old is approached at a concert in Andrea Berg's Sonnenhof by keyboardist Marc Fischer and guitarist Stefan Kinski. They were looking for a successor to singer Heike Wanner for their band Wolkenfrei. Vanessa Mai puts on her current stage name and joins Wolkenfrei.
In 2015, Fischer and Kinski leave Wolkenfrei. For the time being, Vanessa Mai still plays shows under the name of the band and releases the album "Wachgeküsst". In 2016, however, she then drops the band name and performs only as a solo artist. Her success does not diminish - on the contrary.
Solo career and collaborations with other artists
After several television appearances and tours, Vanessa Mai releases her new album "Für Dich" on April 15, 2016. This is produced by Dieter Bohlen. The release becomes a huge success. A live and an acoustic album follow.
The follow-up albums "Regenbogen" (2017), "Schlager" (2018), "Für Immer" (2019) and "Mai Tai" (2021) also bring Vanessa Mai further chart success. In addition to releasing her solo songs, the singer also repeatedly finds the opportunity to collaborate with other bands and artists. Thus she records, among others, songs with Xavier Naidoo, Joel Brandenstein, Lérica, Olexesh and Sido. She also sings in Croatian, the language of her father.
Vanessa Mai on television and on stage
When she is not in the studio or on stage, Vanessa Mai can also be seen regularly on television: In the KiKA format "Dein Song" she is a godmother for an aspiring singer. She is part of the jury on "Deutschland sucht den Superstar" in 2016 and takes second place on "Let's Dance" in 2017. In 2019 she wins "Schlag den Star" and the following year has her first leading role in the ARD film "Nur mit Dir zusammen". Here she plays a singer.
In addition, she starts her own fitness program under the name "Mai Fit" in 2021 and appears with her husband Andreas Ferber in the show "Celebrity Hunted". Her great passion, however, is and remains music. Sooner or later, the multi-talent is always drawn back to the stage.
