The participating brass bands will compete for the title of "Besson Swiss Open Champion Band". In addition, the special prize endowed with CHF 1,000, donated by Obrasso-Verlag AG, will be awarded for the best-played self-choice piece and the special prize endowed with CHF 500, donated by Musik Beat Zurkinden AG, for the best-played solo cornet (solo 2, letters D-E & P-Q) in the test piece. Five jurors evaluate the performances without contact with each other, without visual contact and without knowledge of the starting order. Each of the jurors awards a maximum of 60 points for the test piece and the self-selection piece. The highest and lowest scores are deducted, resulting in a maximum of 180 points per band for the test piece and self-selection piece and a total of 360 points.
