Joseph Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major was composed during his early years at the Esterházy court and was long considered lost until it was rediscovered in 1961. It combines Baroque virtuosity with Classical clarity and places the cello at the center of the piece. Antonín Dvořák traveled to New York in 1892 to take over as director of the National Conservatory of Music. Inspired by Native American melodies and the songs of African American plantation workers, Dvořák sought to infuse their spirit into his Ninth Symphony, “From the New World.” The premiere took place in 1893 at Carnegie Hall. For this project, two sought-after musicians with Sensler roots are joining forces: award-winning cellist Sebastian Diezig, a rising star on the Swiss music scene, and conductor Jérôme Kuhn, known for his contemporary projects and international collaborations.
