Since their formation in 2015, the duo — James Cullen and Dan Cobb — have become masters of balancing the intimacy of bedroom pop with festival-ready ambition. The English duo is known for their superbly composed alternative pop.
In 2024, Tender released the album “Flux,” which captured the band in the midst of their chaotic and ever-changing lives during the pandemic. Now, with “Where the Waves Break,” they follow up with a reflective album on which the musicians, with patience and a new perspective, contemplate growing older and fatherhood. The album also explores the contrasting facets of the human experience—from the brightest to the darkest and most challenging. “Some of these songs swing back and forth and seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum,” says Cullen.
He adds: “There are moments when we stumble and slip a little into the darkness. Then we take confident steps and lean a little toward the light. But we live in that perfect moment between the two. I like the idea that one cannot exist without the other.”
