Blue Man Group: Nine facts about the blue bald heads

Whether Boston or Berlin - the Blue Man Group has long been a cult act, but there are still some facts that not everyone knows.

Explosion of colors and sounds

The Blue Man Group doesn't fit into any box: the three bald Blue Men have been thrilling audiences since 1991 with a mix of concert, clowning and high-tech performance. A Blue Man expresses his feelings wordlessly. He plays and creates explosions of colors and sounds.

Innovative percussion instruments

With the exception of numbers with pre-rehearsed choreography, the music is played by a six-piece live orchestra. In addition to classic instruments such as drums, electric bass and electric guitar, new types of percussion instruments are also used. For example, rods made of glass-fiber reinforced plastic.

Bald heads made of latex

It takes around an hour to assemble the blue rubber bald head made of latex. The rest of the face is covered with very greasy blue make-up. As this make-up never dries, the three blue bald heads look sticky throughout the show.

Coveted employer

Every year, up to 1,000 performers and musicians audition for one of the coveted spots in a show. 15 applicants are invited to New York, with a maximum of half of one day actually becoming a Blue Man.

High profitability

The requirements profile for future applicants includes a sense of rhythm, acting talent and a willingness to travel. Thanks to the identical appearance of the three Blue Men, the respective cast can be easily replaced, especially for touring productions.

Homage to the art world

The art of well-known painters and sculptors can be recognized in various numbers. They range from Jackson Pollock, Jasper Johns and Constantin Brâncuși to Mark Rothko.

In the last edition of Stefan Raab's "TV total Stock Car Crash Challenge", three blue heads and their live band presented a special arrangement of the hit single "In the End" with Valais singer Stefanie Heinzmann in front of 45,000 fans in the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen on October 10, 2015.

Blue Room Suite in Berlin

Since the Blue Man Group's guest performance in Berlin in March 2014, there has been a Blue Room Suite at the Hotel Indigo right next to Alexanderplatz to match the show's exciting blue look.

Non-stop show

"100-minute show without a break" is and remains one of the Blue Man Group's success factors. Only in this way is it possible to bring the motley audience together until the finale and involve them in the performance.
