"Louenesee", "Bügle" and "Bärner Rock". Every child can sing along to the hits. Songs that have had a decisive influence on dialect rock. Now the Bernese band Span is celebrating its 50th anniversary - an anniversary that few bands can ever celebrate. And then live on stage.
In 1975, songs like "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen and "Lady Marmalade" by Labelle were playing up and down the radio. Span formed that year and combined rock, folk and blues with catchy Bernese-German lyrics. Their music has had a lasting influence on the "dialect rock" genre and they have built up a loyal fan base over generations.
The band stands for an edgy sound and deeply rooted lyrics. Themes such as home, society and the simple life are reflected in their songs. Their music is not only entertaining, but also tells stories that touch many people in Switzerland.
Span have played countless concerts over five decades, proving time and again that they have lost none of their energy. They are one of the few bands that have been able to hold their own in the Swiss music scene for such a long time. Their influence extends far beyond the dialect rock scene and continues to inspire musicians in Switzerland to this day.
