The Rusch Boys
On Saturday, November 20, 2027, three folk musicians from the Wägital valley aim to achieve what no other folk music group has dared to do before: fill Zurich’s Hallenstadion. Advance ticket sales are going fast—tickets are still available.
Father Roger and the twins Cyrill and Simon Rusch have been performing together on stage for over ten years. They hail from Vorderthal in the canton of Schwyz, play the Schwyzerörgeli, accordion, and double bass, and have long since taken their Ländlerpop beyond the folk music scene. They have two Swiss Music Awards on their shelf, and they were also nominated for the Prix Walo. Last fall, they performed on stage at Trauffer’s three sold-out Hallenstadion concerts.
That’s exactly where the idea took shape. “The performances with Trauffer got us hooked,” says Cyrill Rusch. Friends kept asking if the guys wanted to try doing it on their own. Now they’re doing just that. As the headliner, supported by various musical guests whose names the family is gradually revealing. The slogan is already set: “All of Switzerland in Full Rusch.”
They’ve secured backing. Both music producer Thomas J. Gyger and Marc Trauffer pledged their support to the Ruschs before the project even began. The Hallenstadion has a capacity of 15,000.
They’re well aware of the challenge ahead. “It’s obviously a risk, and I’m already feeling a bit nervous,” Roger Rusch is quoted as saying in *Blick*.
The daring trio has kept their feet on the ground: All three work full-time in their respective trades—Roger as a roofer, Cyrill as a carpenter, and Simon as a metalworker. Music is meant to remain a hobby. They don’t have a management team; the brothers coordinate their own performances.
There’s still time until the big night. The Rusch Büeblä are making the most of it in their own way: with performances at open-air festivals, village fairs, and in festival tents all across German-speaking Switzerland. A new album is set to be released in the coming months, featuring some of the Hallenstadion guests.
There’s a huge rush for Hallenstadion tickets: If you want to be there, you should snag yours quickly.
