Few singers have such an extraordinary voice and such a broad musical spectrum as Anastacia. Glasses, a hat and above all her sandpaper voice are her trademarks - but that's not all that makes Anastacia unique. 7 facts about the singer, who will be performing at "The Hall" in Zurich on March 20, 2025 as part of her European tour called "Not That Kind" (advance booking starts on 5.7.24).
Anastacia was born on September 17, 1968 in Chicago. Her full name is Anastacia Lyn Newkirk. She grew up in a family of artists - her mother was an actress, her father a singer. Her big breakthrough as a singer came relatively late: she was already 30 when she landed her first huge hit in 1999 with her debut single "I'm Outta Love".
Anastacia's unmistakable voice is often described as a "sandpaper voice". Her powerful, soulful, smoky vocals are her acoustic trademark.
Anastacia is known for her unique musical style, which she calls "sprock" - a mixture of soul, pop and rock. This style can be heard above all on her third album "Anastacia" from 2004.
Anastacia is known for her characteristic glasses, which have become her trademark. She wears them not only for fashion reasons, but also because of the eye disease Graves' Disease, which she suffered from in her youth. The glasses are therefore not just an accessory, but also a symbol of her overcoming health challenges.
Anastacia has suffered from Crohn's disease, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease, since childhood. Despite this health challenge, she was not discouraged and pursued her musical dreams. In 2003, Anastacia was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent surgery and radiotherapy and beat the disease. She spoke openly about her experiences and became an important voice for breast cancer prevention. She was diagnosed again in 2013, but overcame this challenge too.
Anastacia has an impressive collection of tattoos, including a large Egyptian Ankh cross on her lower back - a symbol of health: something Anastacia has often had to fight for. So each of her tattoos has a special meaning for her.
Anastacia has worked with many well-known artists over the course of her career, including Elton John, Céline Dion and Eros Ramazzotti. Her duet "I Belong to You" with Ramazzotti was a number one hit in Germany. She is currently a guest of Peter Maffay on his farewell tour in Germany.
