Anastacia was born on September 17, 1968 in Chicago. Her full name is Anastacia Lyn Newkirk. She grew up in a family of artists - her mother was an actress, her father a singer. Her big breakthrough as a singer came relatively late: she was already 30 when she landed her first huge hit in 1999 with her debut single "I'm Outta Love".

In 2003, Anastacia was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent surgery and radiotherapy and beat the disease.
