An evening of glitter, groove and nostalgia: British pop icon Sophie Ellis-Bextor is ready to wow Zurich audiences. She will be performing at the Volkshaus on September 23, 2025.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor, born in London in 1979, can look back on an impressive career. She celebrated her breakthrough in 2000 with the dance hit "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)". Her collaboration with Italian DJ Spiller took her to the top of the British charts and laid the foundations for her successful solo career.
Who would have thought that the front woman of the indie band Theaudience would one day become one of the most dazzling figures on the British pop scene? Ellis-Bextor demonstrated a flair for catchy melodies and danceable beats right from the start. Her debut album "Read My Lips" was released in 2001 with the mega-hit "Murder on the Dancefloor". A song that still gets every party going today.
"I was a young mother at the time and in the middle of my budding career," Sophie remembers. "It wasn't easy, but the music gave me strength." You can feel this energy in every one of her songs: from the early disco-pop anthems to the more mature, introverted songs on her later albums.
Throughout her career, the singer has never allowed herself to be pigeonholed. From danceable pop to orchestral ballads and folk elements - the singer has put her own stamp on every genre. Her latest album "Hana" once again demonstrates her versatility and artistic maturity.
"I love evolving," she says, "but of course I also know that fans want to hear my old hits. That's why I try to find a good balance at my concerts."
Fans can look forward to an evening full of hits. From "Murder on the Dancefloor" and "Groovejet" to newer songs such as "A Thousand Orchids" - Sophie Ellis-Bextor will transform the Volkshaus into a pulsating dance temple.
"Music brings people together and spreads positive energy," says the singer. "That's exactly what I want to achieve with my concerts."
