With her debut album "The Wind Is Picking Up", 21-year-old Joya Marleen from St. Gallen is setting a milestone in her career, which has rapidly gained momentum since her hit "Nightmare".
The charismatic artist releases her eagerly awaited debut album today, January 17, 2025, and takes her audience on a fascinating musical journey - accompanied by a tour through Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
You said on Instagram that "lights on" is your most personal song on the album. Can you tell us the story behind it?
Does that mean that "lights on" is also your favorite song on the album (and if so, why?) or is there another one?
Joya Marleen: "lights on" is one of my favorite songs, but right now it's "last dance". It changes all the time, they are all so different.
Is there an overarching theme or message that runs through all the songs on the album and what do you want listeners to take away with them after listening?
Joya Marleen: There is no general theme, I address different experiences and emotions on the songs. They are honest feelings that I had during the songwriting process. It certainly has something to do with the fact that I got into the music business very young and have learned a lot since then. I would like listeners to immerse themselves in a movie when they listen to the album. Everyone creates their own movie scenes and I provide the soundtrack.
Writers sometimes have writer's block. Do you experience this when you create new music and what helps you overcome it?
Joya Marleen : I know writer's block very well. The only solution is to put the guitar down, because after all, you can't force anything. Then I prefer to have a coffee in the meantime.
Now that your new album is out, what's next?
Joya Marleen: I'm going on tour! The "falling in love" tour starts on January 25 in Brugg and will take me all over Switzerland, Germany and Austria. I'm really looking forward to it. What happens after that is still unclear. I will certainly take a short break from touring.
Joya Marleen will be presenting her new album "The Wind Is Picking Up" on her "Falling in Love" tour. There are therefore countless opportunities for fans to experience the artist live.
