The Stubete Gäng are currently the talk of the town, and not without reason. Their song "Richi" is the goal song of the Swiss national team at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship 2024 in Prague.
The Swiss national ice hockey team is currently playing at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship 2024 in Prague. In addition to the good performances of the Swiss ice comrades, the song that is played in the arena after every goal - "Richi" by the Stubete Gäng - is particularly striking. We asked the brothers Aurel and Moritz Hassler in an interview whether they are more ice hockey or football fans and whether a new goal song from their pen is perhaps already in the starting blocks for the 2026 home World Cup.
event: The Swiss national ice hockey team is currently playing in the Ice Hockey World Cup. And every time they score a goal, your song "Richi" plays. I assume you're celebrating with them?
Aurel and Moritz: Of course. We've watched all the games so far, if at all possible. And after every goal, we prick up our ears and turn up the volume. We hope that Richi will continue to echo through the stadium.
You already provided the song for the Swiss goals at the last World Cup. How did you get this honor?
Aurel and Moritz: If only we knew! It's really a great honor and was a really nice surprise for us last time. We assume that the team chooses a song that most people like in some way, and you almost imagine that the players want to score a goal so that they can listen to our song afterwards. But they would probably score the goals even without a goal song.
Your new album will be released in the fall. Do you have a special song for the Swiss home World Cup?
Aurel and Moritz: There are already a lot of songs on the new album that we personally really like and that have everything we need to get the party going. We're going on our first tour this fall to test whether and how the new songs are received. Maybe then we'll see if there's a potential World Cup hit on the bill. And if not, there's still some time until the 2026 World Cup at home. If we can somehow contribute to the World Cup atmosphere, then we're definitely ready to lend a hand. Be it with a song, a concert or if we need someone to wash the jerseys.
Let's be honest: ice hockey or football? Which is closer to you?
Auri: Since I no longer actively play football myself and our songs are constantly being played in some ice hockey stadium, I'd say the two are almost on the same level for me. I enjoy the speed of ice hockey and the fresh air of football.
Momo: I'm a little more fascinated by ice hockey than football. The way the players move together as a group, the coordination, the dynamics on and off the ice - it's somehow very complex. Just the flying changes and the board checks, that it all works so well. I still have a few questions about how it's done.
Speaking of great honors: At the end of last week, you won the SMA for "Best Streaming Artist". How was the party and where is the concrete block now?
Aurel and Moritz: That was a big highlight for us and a nice recognition, especially as we only won this award thanks to our incredible fans out there. The party couldn't keep up with our concerts in terms of atmosphere, but there were some great conversations and encounters. The stone is currently in our studio and is in good hands there.
For all those who would like to experience the "Örbn Ländlr" of the Stubete Gäng live, there are still plenty of opportunities this year. Tickets are available from Ticketcorner.
