Will Smith is releasing his new album «Based on a True Story». It is his first longplayer since 2005 and he is also touring Europe solo.
Will Smith's career has had its ups and downs. From celebrated Hollywood star to controversial celebrity and back again – with outspoken words, new projects and a gradual return to the limelight. His versatility as an actor and personality remains a trademark.
Now Will Smith is back – musically. After comeback attempts in recent years (e.g. 2017 with «Get Lit»), «Based on a True Story», his first solo album in almost two decades, will be officially released on March 28, 2025. Not as a nostalgia act, but with new content and fresh energy.
The album contains 14 songs, many of which are autobiographical. In the lyrics, Smith deals with personal experiences, setbacks and new beginnings. Stylistically, he remains true to his mixture of pop-rap and soulful beats, with contemporary production and feature guests such as B. Simone, Teyana Taylor, Jac Ross, DJ Jazzy Jeff and others.
Parallel to the release, the 56-year-old artist is going on a European tour. The setlist promises new songs, but fans will not be waiting in vain for his hits such as «Gettin' Jiggy Wit It», «Miami» and «Summertime». The shows in Germany and Switzerland will take place in July in medium-sized venues, smaller halls and at open-air festivals, deliberately close to the fans.
Will Smith has indicated several times in recent years that he wants to return to music. However, smaller live performances and features have remained rather sporadic. With the current project, there are many signs of a serious new beginning.
