Herofest 2026 will take place from October 2 to 4 at Bernexpo in Bern. The convention combines digital games, cosplay, tabletop, fantasy, music and community experiences. Various themed worlds are expected, from indie games to medieval markets. The result is a weekend that showcases pop culture as a broad live experience.
In the Digital Gaming Hall, the focus is on the playable present. The Indie Games Area focuses on smaller studios and new ideas. Free-to-play offerings, arcades, retro games and gaming exhibition stands are also on show. Nintendo is also listed as a separate area. The Creator Lounge complements the program with those voices that are strongly shaping gaming culture today. Herofest thus shows how differently games can be experienced: nostalgically, competitively, creatively or simply together on site.
The physical gaming and fantasy hall opens up a view beyond the screen. Trading cards, tabletop, board games, puzzle formats and chess bring quieter, tactical moments to the convention. The fairytale forest D&D hints at role-playing games and narrative fantasy experiences. The Robot Fighting League, airsoft and a football area also broaden the spectrum. Herofest is therefore not focusing on a single scene, but on many types of gaming.
Cosplay is one of the most visible elements of Herofest. Characters from games, series, films and comics are realized here with craft and attitude. The Artist Village adds a second creative level. Illustrations, fan art, prints and own designs also make the convention a place for independent art. This combination of costume, drawing and performance is a particularly direct expression of fan culture.
In addition to the large halls, specials and side quests have also been announced. These include a faction area, a quest system and food and drink offers. Highlights include Hero Midgard with a medieval market, music and cosplay. This mixture gives the Herofest a festival character. Between stage moments, market stalls and encounters, a framework is created that goes beyond traditional trade fair areas.
Digital culture, analog games, fantasy, music and cosplay are not separate. They intertwine and tell of a pop culture that has long known many forms. This makes Herofest an important meeting place for the Swiss fan and gaming scene.
