Circus Monti premiere: cheers and flowers for "Dreambox"

05/08/2017 written by Sidonia Maurer
It's Circus Monti's 33rd year: yesterday, Friday, the Aargau circus hosted the grand premiere of "Dreambox". We reveal what it was like.

For 33 years, the Wohlen Music Society has been welcoming guests to Circus Monti's premiere at the Schützenhausplatz. Circus director Johannes Muntwyler makes a relaxed impression. He stands at the entrance to the tent and greets every single guest with a friendly smile.

Flowers are distributed in front of the entrance to the tent. One for each guest. The start of the performance is delayed a little, which doesn't seem to bother anyone in the sold-out tent.

The lights go out. The performance begins. Arthur, the main character of the program, performs tricks on the ladder until he finally finds the "Dreambox" and transports the audience to another world. This is followed by acts from the clown duo from Canada, the artist on the vertical rope and much more. The "Dreambox" has become an important part of Arthur's life and his desire for happiness, friendship and love.

The highlight of the first part comes shortly before the interval: Johannes and Mario Muntwyler present their performance: plate juggling: tens of plates juggle on the thinnest of rods above the Muntwylers' heads, leaving the audience's nerves on edge. "I can't watch" and "That makes me nervous" are heard from all sides. Of course, it all ends well. The break can be enjoyed in peace and quiet.

Russian parallel bars and Röhn wheel in the second part

The clown is also a recurring show act in the second part. The Russian parallel bars and the cartwheel are used, and the hand-on-hand duo impress with their skillful and daring performance. This is followed by a juggling act by Mario Muntwyler, which is framed by a soulful ballad by the band.

The "Dreambox" is the common thread that runs through the entire program and guides Arthur through his life. It is about wishes and dreams, friendships and trust, being and striving. But as Arthur and his colleagues show us, too much "Dreambox" can also cause damage.

Sea of flowers at the end of the premiere

At the end of the premiere, the flowers distributed at the beginning fly into the ring from everywhere. A long-standing tradition that transforms the circus ring into a sea of flowers. Circus director Johannes Muntwyler thanks his team and his family and wishes all spectators a "Dreambox": "Everyone should have dreams."

This year's program is convincing and is characterized by the cooperation of the artists. You can clearly feel their passion and every single one of them is involved in the program throughout, without just performing their own act. Together they tell a story, transport the audience into the world of the "Dreambox" and create something great: emotions are awakened. Feelings are exchanged.

After such a successful premiere, nothing can go wrong for the remaining performances until the end of November.
