Miss Mallow - The Dragon Nanny: Fresh and full of fire

01/11/2017 written by Nalin Polat
A colorful bird like Miss Mallow doesn't really fit into the gray stone castle. The dragon nanny is the main character in Andrew Bond's latest children's musical. The playful and lively adventure is now going on tour.

Whether it's "Tom Träumer", "Ladina und d Plunderlampe" or "Mac Säbel und die Party-Piraten". Children - and many grown-up goofs - love the works of Andrew Bond. "Color, Fire and Fantasy" is the title of the new song by the children's songwriter, who is one of the most successful Swiss musicians ever with over700,000 records sold.

You can look forward to the new songs - but the musical also has a great story to offer. It's obvious: when dragons are involved, things get fiery and cheeky: Countess Waldegund von Niederlagen has employed the dragon nanny Miss Mallow as nanny to her children Wentzel and Waltraud. The strict mother has to focus on winning the annual castle competition against Count Günther von Siebensieg and his dragon Füffü. However, Miss Mallow soon turns out to be a quirky, upbeat character who interprets education and order in a completely different way.

Musical maker Andrew Bond: "My fantasies are like ghosts"

"I never run out of ideas, I already have five more musicals in my head that I want to produce," says Bond when we meet him during preparations in his home town of Wädenswil. He has been working hard here for over two months and is now also rehearsing - under the direction of Brigitte Amrein and choreographer Regina Leitner.

Designer Vittoria Michel makes up to 20 costumes for each musical. There were even two different designs for the colorful dragon costume. In collaboration with director Brigitte Amrein and choreographer Regina Leitner, the cast rehearsed diligently every day for several weeks. The actors appreciate the pleasant, informal atmosphere within the group, and newcomer Tobias Fischer, who plays Wentzel, feels very comfortable from the very beginning. "Andrew has enormous sensitivity. He is also always excellent at assigning roles. Andrew is a harmonious person, you can come to him with any problem," enthuses Daniela, who is playing Countess Waldegund von Niederlagen this time - she was already there in 2010 when Andrew Bond sent his first Märli musical on tour. Since then, over 120,000 young and old audiences have seen the singing and laughing shows.

Andrew Bond's ambition is to constantly inspire audiences with new ideas. To inspire, in the most literal sense, as he says: "My fantasies are like ghosts stuck in drawers that need to be set free."
