Born in Havana to a Cuban mother and a Mexican father, she fled to the United States with her mother six years after her birth, where they settled in Florida and Camila went to school. In 2012, she took a decisive step: she applied for the US version of the casting show "X Factor", but was eliminated early. Juror Simon Cowell, who has also put together bands such as One Direction and Little Mix from individual candidates to form a group, brought Camila Cabello back and founded the group Fifth Harmony with her, which came third in the casting show. Initially, success failed to materialize. Until Fifth Harmony celebrated worldwide success with the album "Reflection" and the single "Worth It".
The single "Work From Home" from the album "7/27" was one of the biggest hits around the globe in 2016. At the end of 2016, Cabello decided to leave the band and do her own thing. After several collaborations - including Shawn Mendes and Major Lazer - Cabello released the single "Crying In The Club", which was written by Sia and herself and was only moderately successful. Only the second single "Havana" brought her a worldwide hit.
