Nickless celebrated great success with his first album and, in particular, his debut single "Waiting". Now the 23-year-old is opening a new chapter with his second album "Chapters".
Nickless worked on his music in abandoned family homes.
The artist
Nickless originally started out as an assistant in a recording studio. And suddenly his boss was his producer and he was the musician behind the microphone. Nickless launched his career in 2015 with the debut single "Waiting", followed by the album "Four Years", which summarizes four years of his music-making. Big topic: his girlfriend and how he won her as a friend. He not only won her heart, but also the Swiss Music Award: In 2016, "Waiting" was named "Best Hit National", followed by many festival gigs, his own concerts and concerts as a support act for Andreas Bourani, among others. Things quietened down around Nickless in 2017: he retired to work on new music.
The album
Now available: Nickless' second album "Chapters".
"Chapters" is Nickless' second album. He wrote it in detached houses that were about to be demolished. He was able to retreat there, install a studio and let off steam. The subject of the new album is no longer just his girlfriend, but stories that have happened to him or people around him. Musically, Nickless describes the new sound as "more angular and edgier" than its predecessor, "not as tidy". For example, at one point the guitar is not perfectly tuned and one guitar sounds a bit trashy. Cool: Nickless recorded a lot himself, as he plays guitar, drums and piano.
The verdict
Nickless remains true to his previous musical style, with a little more groove and a little less electronics in places than on his debut album. Fittingly, the perfectly chosen introductory song to the album is called "Groovin'". Solid pop that could have been a little cheekier.
