Album of the week: "No Hunger" by Kunz whets the appetite for more

03/02/2017 written by Christoph Soltmannowski
Cheerful, fresh, danceable, yet not trivial: "No Hunger" by Kunz is musical culinary art.

The artist and the band

Marco Kunz (30) from Lucerne describes his music as dialect folk. His looks have earned him the nickname Alpen-Gosling. Was once in a relationship with Gülsha. In 2012, he won the Small Prix Walo in the singing category. The band consists of Edis Kahrimanovic (guitar), Marcel Schwegler (bass), Manuel Römer (drums) and Chris Pfändler (dulcimer).

The new album

"No Hunger" is the third studio album after "Eifach so" and "Mundart-Folk" (2015). Kunz goes beyond the box thematically and musically. The songs tell stories, bursting with energy and cheerfulness. Folk with a clear Swiss character - but without placing folklore in the foreground, as his colleague Trauffer does. Mandolins and violins resound. Sometimes it also sounds Irish; occasionally the Balkans send their regards. Chris Pfändler shows on the hammered dulcimer that his traditional instrument is anything but antiquated - if you play it like he does.

Recommended tracks

"Üs ghört d'Nacht": Cheerful sound for exuberant celebrations.
"Aber äbe":Catchy melody, witty lyrics with a thoughtful component.
"Seisch e Gruess":Hymn-like song that is sure to work very well live.

Verdict

Music that creates a good atmosphere and that you would love to experience live. Marco Kunz and his band show vision.
