Dreamy, in love and full of joie de vivre: that's how Shakira presents herself on her new album.
The artist
The Colombian Shakira achieved her success as a musician herself when, at the age of 13, she determinedly handed her cassettes with her songs to a Sony manager and received her first record deal. Today, the 40-year-old is considered the most successful Colombian artist of all time and is now releasing her eleventh studio album after a three-year "break" - during which time she gave birth to her second son Sasha.
The album
Shakira: "El Dorado"-released on 26.5. 2017
On her last album "Shakira" there were only two Spanish songs - with "El Dorado" she turns this pattern inside out. She sings only three of the 13 songs in English, the others in her native Spanish. Shakira has returned to a much more Latin and reggaeton style, as can already be heard in the pre-released single "Chantaje feat. Maluma".
However, the singer also weaves her broad musical influences into this album, such as pop in "When a Woman" or rock in ballads like "Nada" and gentle country sounds in "Coconut Tree".
She also works increasingly with other artists, such as Carlos Vives, Prince Royce and the 23-year-old reggaeton singer Maluma, who sings on two tracks.
Verdict
"Gold" is the theme of the album, which can be recognized not only by the color of the cover, but also by the title "El Dorado", which bears the name of a gold country in South America. However, the album's content is anything but monochrome. Dreamy ballads are carefully spread across the album and placed between songs with swinging rhythms, where you immediately see Shakira's famous hip swing in front of you.
Recommended tracks
"Nada" - a gentle ballad that shows its rock side in the chorus.
"Me Enamoré" - the hard beat with Shakira's full voice whets the appetite for summer. There is also a video clip:
"Amarillo" - a dreamy song that you simply have to sing along to, even if you don't speak Spanish.
Live
The singer announces that a tour will follow the new album later this year.
