Album of the week: Trauffer with "Schnupf, Schnaps & Edelwyss"

26/01/2018 written by Michel Imhof
Trauffer is riding the wave of success: as of last week, his latest album "Heiterefahne" is officially the most successful album by a Swiss artist in the Swiss charts. This means that Trauffer has relegated Gölä with "Uf u dervo" to second place in the all-time best list. Now comes Trauffer's next hit: "Schnupf, Schnaps & Edelwyss"

The artist

Marc Trauffer (38) laid the foundation for his career as the singer of the Swiss band Airbäg. After retiring from the music business for several years, he relaunched himself as Trauffer and gradually built up the "Alpentainer" empire (Alpentainer is a play on the words "Alps" and "entertainer"). His greatest success to date is the album "Heiterefahne", which became the most successful Swiss album in the local hit parade. His concerts range from club gigs to open-air appearances in front of several thousand people - as the support act for Gölä at Moon&Stars or several times for Andreas Gabalier.

The album

The concept is exciting: Marc Trauffer retreated to a mountain hut in the Justistal valley with his band and production team for around three weeks so that he could concentrate fully on the new album - from the lyrics and melody to the production, everything was created in this hut, the system was powered by solar energy and straw bales were used to dampen the ambient noise. The story is told in the CD booklet. A total of 15 songs have made it onto the new album.

The judgment

"Schnupf, Schnaps und Edelwyss" is the perfect album for fans of folky dialect rock. Trauffer comes from the Bernese Oberland and you can hear that: the majority of the songs sound like the soundtrack to a groovy Alpine party, even if the lyrics could have been a little more unusual in places ("Doch Bier und Cervelat, da la ni sogar mal es Fondue stah"). Cool: the album features influences from rock 'n' roll (in the song "Dä mit de Chüeh") and reggae (in the song "Liire"). And even a new interpretation of the Ruedi Rymann hit "Schacher Seppli" has made it onto the new album.

Playing tip

  • Alpzyt - Melancholic song about time in the mountains

  • Obsi oder Nizi - Sounds like a modern version of "Es Burebüebli mani nid".

Trauffer Live

Marc Trauffer has come up with a very special concept for his upcoming tour: It's not just a concert, but an entire experience in the "Alpentainer" village. The events do not take place in cities, but only in the agglomeration and in the countryside. Before the concert there will be refreshments with local specialties, after the concert there will be an "Alpentainer" party and an autograph session. A journey into the world of Trauffer.
