Eight years ago, everyone was dancing to "Heavy Cross" by Gossip. After two more hits, "Perfect World" and "Move in the Right Direction", the band disappeared without a sound. Now ex-frontwoman Beth Ditto is back.
In fact, the singer was never completely gone. During her time with Gossip, she launched a solo career. However, she only released two songs: "I Wrote the Book" - an electropop number in Gossip style - and the drum'n'bass dubstep song "Running Low" in collaboration with DJ Netsky.
That was three years ago now. In the meantime, Beth Ditto has made the headlines with the real Gossip instead of with music. Remember, for example, her arrest for drunkenly shouting "Obamaaaa, Obamaaaa" and causing a ruckus in Portland, Oregon. Or the fact that Beth Ditto describes herself as a "fat, feminist lesbian from Arkansas". She also likes to rage against luxury kids and is otherwise loud and political.
But the singer can also be profound. In her autobiography "Heavy Cross", she deals with her sad childhood, which was characterized by poverty, hunger and abuse. Instead of songs, Bethditto.com offers clothes for full-figured women. Yes, the musician is also a fashion designer. In the future, however, the American will be focusing more on her solo career. Beth Ditto has announced her debut album and the first single "Fire" for June 2017. Her Swiss fans will be on fire this summer. The former frontwoman of Gossip will then sweep across the stage at the Montreux Jazz Festival as a whirlwind as usual.
