Bligg: Switzerland is a small Europe

08/11/2018 written by Carlotta Henggeler
Dialect musician Bligg alias Marco Bliggensdorfer (42) on "The Voice of Switzerland" and "Bachelor", why he is lonely in the studio and how he turns concert halls into regulars with his "KombiNation" tour.

event: 3+ will be producing a season of "The Voice of Switzerland" next year. As an experienced TV judge, you would be an ideal coach...
BLIGG: (smiles) I just read that this morning and said to my team: Hey, we should actually apply. "DGST no longer exists. It would be fun to team up with Marc Sway and Stefanie Heinzmann.

Or you could apply to be the next "Bachelor" in 2019.
No, I'm not going to do that! But I would be interested in developing my own TV show.

Your son is 3½ years old. If he were older and wanted to take part in a casting show - would you like that?
I wouldn't want him to get into the music business.

Because he would constantly be compared to you?
Yes, and because I know how many sacrifices you have to make for a career in music.
you have to make for a music career. If he really wants to, he can do it. But I would advise him to learn a solid job first.
"On tour, we offer a program with a regular pub and a regulars' table."

You were a plumber. Do you sometimes miss the craftsmanship?
I have a little house that I work on. Writing texts is very top-heavy. I do a lot of sport to balance it out. Three to four times a week I do strength training, build up my fitness or go jogging. And I like fishing, which is relaxing.

You spent a lot of time in the studio for your new album "KombiNation". You live in a bubble.
Yes, it's very lonely. You spend a lot of time alone. You're constantly asking yourself things like: Can I use this word? Every artist who writes their own songs has that. Like Eminem, he also talks about how he struggles. I'm amazed at how music writing has changed. Very few artists do everything themselves anymore. Most work with ghostwriters. There are 17 people involved in a Rihanna song. There are two of us, my producer Fred Herrmann and myself.

On "KombiNation", different people speak song intros. On "1954", your Nonno (grandfather) talks about how he came to Switzerland. A very personal story. How did you come up with that?
There are various reasons for that. Back when "0816" came out, there was a song on it called "Secondos". That's the story of my Nonno, how he came to Switzerland. "KombiNation" picks up from there. Now my Nonno tells the story from his point of view.

Interesting.
Yes, "0816" was musically very focused on Swiss traditions. With "KombiNation", another side has been added. The beat influences are from all over the world. Switzerland is a small Europe, united in one country. For this album, it was important to me to incorporate all these elements from my friends with a migration background - be it Indian samples or sounds from Eastern Europe. That's why it's called "KombiNation". There are six different guests with different roots on the album.

"In Tüüfels Chuchi" is a catchy tune with a special message.
The song is a tribute to all underprivileged people, with or without a history of migration, who have had to put up with a lot in their lives because they don't conform to the norm.

You'll soon be going on a big nationwide "KombiNation" tour.
This time we're going more into the countryside and offering a full evening program. With a regular pub and regulars' table, dialect pop musician ZID puts on an incredible one-man show as the opening act. We play the new songs from the album "KombiNation" for 90 minutes, but of course also the big hits. And an after-party at the end.
