Bravo Bobo! The DJ is honored

Great honor for a Swiss world star: DJ Bobo is presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award for his life's work at the Swiss Music Awards.

An Aargau native set out to conquer the world: In his 25-year career, DJ Bobo (49) has sold more than 15 million records, thrilled over five million spectators on his tours and scooped up 250 gold and platinum awards. Now an important prize has been added: At the Swiss Music Awards on February 10, 2017, Bobo alias René Baumann will be honored with the Outstanding Achievement Award for his life's work.

"This award makes me very happy and it also goes to many people who have been on this path with me for so long," the musician tells BLICK. "I am overjoyed to have been able to live my dream for 25 years and to be able to let my creative thoughts flow into music and shows every day."

From baker to record millionaire

During his apprenticeship as a baker and confectioner, Bobo discovered his love of music in the mid-1980s as a hip-hop DJ and break dancer. He celebrated his breakthrough in 1992 with the single "Somebody Dance With Me". Bobo then became the defining figure of Eurodance. He filled stadiums around the world with elaborate stage shows and landed a summer hit in 2003 with the catchy tune "Chihuahua".
DJ Bobo is currently celebrating his 25th stage anniversary on the "Mystorial" tour, so the choice was not difficult for the Swiss Music Award organizers: "DJ Bobo has been inspiring the masses for 25 years and successfully exporting Swiss music all over the world. Outstanding!", says organizer Oliver Rosa (43).
Bobo knows who he has to thank for his success: "Thank you to my audience, which consists of all generations, races and religions! That fills me with great humility and gratitude."

"Mystorial" - We have seen the new show

Back to the beginnings! Around two weeks ago, DJ Bobo (49) started his anniversary tour "Mystorial" at Europapark in Rust (Germany). The show centers on a journey through time: different eras are replayed on stage and the last 25 years are recalled musically. Classics such as "What A Feeling", "Somebody Dance With Me" and "Chihuahua" are accompanied by the famous choreographies and lots of pyro and lighting effects.

Among the 36 people on stage - more than ever before on a Bobo tour - are DJ Bobo and his wife Nancy (46) as well as "DSDS" winner Aneta Sablik (28) and Swiss DSDS participant Jesse Ritch (24) as a singer. Bobo even gets carried away with a spectacular stunt: The piano, which he appears to be playing, rises into the air in the middle of the show and spins the musician twice around its own axis.

The two-hour show ends with a shower of confetti in the middle of the nineties. And the audience, from young to old, know: DJ Bobo can still do it.
