Brit Floyd founder Damian Darlington: "The Pink Floyd members know what we do"

02/11/2016 written by Michel Imhof
He toured with the "Australian Pink Floyd Show" for over 10 years until he founded his own Pink Floyd tribute band "Brit Floyd". We spoke to Damian Darlington (47) about his passion for Pink Floyd.
In 2007, you founded your own Pink Floyd tribute band, Brit Floyd. Before that, you toured with the "Australian Pink Floyd Show". When did you become a Pink Floyd fan?

Ever since I heard their album "The Wall" for the first time when I was 13. Immediately afterwards, I bought all the other albums and listened to them up and down.
Always playing the same band's music gets boring at some point.

No. It's simply wonderful music, I listen to it regularly and enjoy playing it. There are also very talented musicians in the band who are fun to play with. And we get to see so much of the world, it's incredible.
Have you met the original members of Pink Floyd?

"...they know what Brit Floyd is and have already told me that they like the project and think it's a quality show."

Yes, I've met David Gilmour several times and even had the pleasure of being on stage with founding member Richard Wright. I'm not in regular contact with the members, but they know what Brit Floyd is and have already told me that they like the project and think it's a quality show.
What do you focus on at your concerts?

Of course we want the music to sound exactly like the original piece. But we don't force that. My personal focus is primarily on the show effects, how we can offer the best experience.
What is the audience like at your concerts?

Very mixed. There are people who bought Pink Floyd's first records, but also a lot of young people who weren't even born when Pink Floyd first toured.
What was the best place to play?

It was in Colorado, in an amphitheater in the Rocky Mountains. It's called Red Rocks and so many big names have played there.
