For the fiftieth edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival, the festival organizers are going all out to create fresh legends - with cheeky combinations.

The festival's press officer, Antoine Bal, is dashing from event to event. "For this important anniversary, we want to bring back history, but with the help of newcomers," he explains. And how will that work? "We tell a unique story at every concert evening," explains Bal. "We bring the young, highly regarded jazz trumpeter Christian Scott from New Orleans together with the jazz old masters Bill Evans, Mike Stern, Dennis Chambers and Darryl Jones on one evening. "This creates new connections, which is exciting and exactly in the spirit of Claude Nobs and the Montreux Jazz Festival."

The energetic British jazz singer Jamie Cullum will be sharing the stage with Lisa Simone, the daughter of the legendary Nina Simone, Quincy Jones with Pepe Lienhard, and pop superstar Lana Del Rey will be joined on her evening by 23-year-old Max Jury, a singer/songwriter discovery from Iowa.

Other top acts this year are: Muse, Neil Young, Simply Red, Randy Weston, Deep Purple, Santana, Jean-Michel Jarre, Patti Smith, PJ Harvey and Woodkid. The "Brazilian Dream" evening brings together numerous top Brazilian artists, e.g. João Bosco and Maria Rita, daughter of Elis Regina. Specials: The "Swiss Movement" concert in the moated castle of Chillon and a David Bowie tribute. And Antoine Bal's insider tips: "You absolutely have to see the singer Anohni and the young US singer Cécile McLorin Salvant - they're top!"
