Jazzy Zurich: 18th Jazz-no-Jazz-Festival from November 1-5

26/10/2016 written by Nina Müller
For the 18th time, the jazznojazz music festival will take place at Zurich's Gessnerallee from November 1 to 5, bringing the entire spectrum of contemporary jazz to a wide audience.

Big jazz names such as David Sanborn, Brad Mehldau and Joshua Redman meet cheeky and surprising newcomers such as the wild Lucky Chops from New York, the English pianist and singer Jacob Collier, who is only 22 years old and plays all the instruments in his songs himself, and the Australian singer Sarah McKenzie. With her light and clear voice, she interprets the famous songs of the American Songbook with verve, beauty and great skill, and her appearance is also reminiscent of the successful jazz singer Diana Krall.

According to director Johannes Vogel, the 18th edition of the jazznojazz festival in Zurich will once again showcase the diverse range of jazz: "The name of our festival says it all," explains Vogel, "the no-jazz shows that we are particularly interested in the overlaps with other musical genres."

Jazz concert for children

There is also something for children to hear at this year's jazznojazz: the wild and experimental formation "Hildegard lernt fliegen", which won the "Echo Jazz Award" last year, will be playing two concerts at this year's festival in Zurich: the second concert is specially dedicated to children and will take place on Saturday, November 5 at 5 pm at the Gessnerallee Zurich.
