With concerts by Ala.Ni and Youssou N'Dour, the 51st Montreux Jazz Festival comes to an end tomorrow Saturday after 16 days.
With a total of 230,000 visitors and 90,000 tickets sold, the figures for this year's festival are slightly lower than last year's - but because the weather didn't play along every day, Montreux is still satisfied.
After a slow start to sales, ticket sales have picked up considerably over the 15 days of the festival so far - the budget is almost balanced, the organizers announced. This is also due to the good drinks and food sales: in order to stimulate these, the waterfront promenade was extended with a 150-metre-long terrace. The free program, including "Music in the Park", the newcomer platform Lisztomania and the Strobe Club, also attracted many visitors from near and far - most of whom stayed until the early hours of the morning at the entertainment mile.
The stages of the Auditorium Stravinski, the Montreux Jazz Lab and the Montreux Jazz Club once again provided many highlights and surprises this year. Legends such as Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Tom Jones, Bryan Ferry and "Beach Boy" Bryan Wilson once again wowed the crowds, while younger talents such as Beyonce's sister Solange, Tash Sultana, pianist Chilly Gonzales with his incredible entertaining charm, pop stars such as Lukas Graham, Dua Lipa and Mø as well as Zurich electropop pioneers Yello with their first live show in 39 years attracted a great deal of attention. Many spectators also came to the "Out Of the Box" concerts at unusual venues such as Chillon Castle and the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace Hotel.
The Montreux Jazz Festival continues until tomorrow, Saturday. July 15.
