Even earlier, at the age of 17, he had signed up for the Belgian version of "The Voice". Bastian Baker was on the jury and Nottet came second. "I signed up without thinking twice because I wanted to find out how the music business works," he says. "After that, I knew I wanted to be a singer. I like the fact that I do so much myself: composing, dancing, music videos."
"People are too egotistical and self-centered today"
After the ESC, the Belgian went on to take part in the French version of "Let's Dance", which he even won. After his performance of Sia's "Chandelier", the judges were on the edge of their seats and he was awarded the highest score.
Nottet took around two years to make his debut album "Selfocracy", writing the songs himself. "Many people are egotistical these days and only see themselves," he says. "My high voice makes me different, and I think it's good to be different. You have to be proud of yourself, that's the important thing." His first tour is due to coincide with the album. And the fact that the Zurich concert is taking place on the same evening as this year's ESC final in Kiev doesn't bother Nottet: "If I have time, I'll just watch it later. I'll give it my all like I did at the ESC!"
