Malky: Pop-affine soul from the attic

04/08/2016 written by Mohan Mani
When an attic is converted into a studio, Germany suddenly sounds international.

That's what happened at Malky. The mood must have been good during the recording sessions. Because the Leipzig pop band's debut album "Soon" sounds fresh, polished and not at all woody, as band member and producer Michael Vajna himself meekly claimed. Singer Daniel Stoyanov's soulful voice sometimes even sounds a little like Amy Winehouse. Only the darkness is missing. And that's a good thing.

First tracks from the new album live

Two years have passed since the first self-made recordings. The busy schedule shows that there's no point in getting carried away. The "Where is Piemont?" tour is also taking Malky - the name is Bulgarian and means "little boy" - to the Alps, i.e. Switzerland. This summer, the Berlin duo opened the Summerstage Festival in Basel's front garden. There, the singer-songwriters presented tracks from their new album "Where is Piemont?" for the first time in Switzerland.
