Montreux Jazz Festival: Alt-J love to swim in Lake Geneva

04/07/2017 written by Annika Hagemann
Alt-J made their third stop at the Montreux Jazz Festival in support of their third album "Relaxer". We spoke to the British alternative folk band shortly before their performance.

Their first pieces of music were written during their studies. The unusual, minimalist style came about thanks to the strict rules in their dormitories, which prevented the young band from using loud instruments such as bass guitars and bass drums.
Since their breakthrough with their debut "An Awesome Wave" in 2012, the musicians have stopped at the Montreux Jazz Festival for every album tour.

"Every time we've been here, we've swum in the lake. We did the same today. The music fans and the atmosphere, it just feels like a party."

In the interview, band members Joe Newman and Gus Unger-Hamilton revealed how the name of their third studio album came about and why their song lyrics are not always as profound and thoughtful as many of their fans claim.
