Series: Festival Summer 2017 | Episode 20: Riverside Open Air, Aarburg
Gina Morosey, booking manager of the Riverside Open Air.
What is special about your festival this year?
The presentation of the Rock'n'Roll of Fame Aarburg. The Rock'n'Roll of Fame is in a beautiful location in Aarburg: In the middle of the old town and the castle in the background. This is a monument that has existed for generations and honors selected international artists who perform in Aarburg. The presentation of the Rock'n'Roll of Fame took place in June, together with the announcement of the festival surprise act - the outstanding headliner Gotthard.
What criteria did you use to put together the line-up?
We want to offer our audience something very special. Entertainment and performance are our priority. The exclusivity of the headliners is also one of the criteria. Rock giant Dee Snider, blues rock legend Eric Burdon & The Animals, Black Stone Cherry, Europe, Kim Wilde and Jethro Tull are bands that are rarely seen at Swiss festivals. Our booked bands are therefore usually not on tour and only come to us for this one show. This is more expensive to produce but much more interesting for the concert-goer.
What else is on offer besides the music?
The premium area is being expanded: Directly on the River Aare and with the fortress in the background, around 46,000 visitors have made the pilgrimage to Aarburg every year. Despite the rapid growth of the festival, the quality is constantly being improved. The ten-ton lounge presented by Feldschlösschen AG stands five meters high. Those who book the all-inclusive package benefit from additional offers such as a helicopter flight.
How would you describe your festival in a tweet (max. 140 characters)?
The Riverside Open Air Arena, with a world-class line-up, many beautiful vintage cars, over 100 food, bars, market stalls, a fun park and a huge campsite, promises an unforgettable weekend. Situated directly along the river with the castle in the background, this is the ideal location for a music festival with high standards.
