He brings the blues into the modern age: British musician Rag'n'Bone Man (31) and his song "Human". He can be seen live at the Swiss Music Awards.
Tall is a good word to describe the British musician's charisma and music.
Rory Graham (31) is broad, tall, with a long beard, short hair and lots of tattoos. And then that powerful voice with a lot of heart. So much heart that it colors his rough vocals pleasantly warm. In the song "Perfume", the notes emerge delicately from his robust body, while in the current hit "Human" he belts them powerfully into the microphone. Listening to him is the most pleasant rollercoaster of emotions in a long time.
It's a shame that the general public is only now discovering this man with a powerful voice. Because Graham has been a musician for a long time. Growing up in Uckfield in the south of England, he called himself Rag'n'Bonez from the age of 16. Because he wants to be a rapper.
The singing ragman
Although - or because - he grew up listening to a lot of blues music because of his parents, he felt most at home in hip-hop. Over the course of time, Rag'n'Bonez became Rag'n'Bone Man. The unconventional name is borrowed from a British comedy series from the 1970s.
When Graham was 19 years old, his father persuaded him to try his hand at the blues again. His son did - and was immediately successful. In the beginning, the Briton played the two musical styles separately, until they began to merge. A cool, groovy style emerges that is difficult to assign to a genre. Just a rag'n'bone style.
As Rag'n'Bone Man, he records several songs, most of which he produces himself. Commenting on his 2012 album "Blues Town", the musician says: "My voice doesn't really sound great on it yet, and the recordings weren't good either. Surprisingly, the songs were still very well received."
A stone starts rolling: Rory Graham is booked for gigs and as a support singer and quits his job as a nurse to devote himself to music.
Album release in Switzerland
Four years ago, Rag'n'Bone Man signed his first record deal. Three albums followed. Last year, now supported by an international record company, he recorded his fourth album "Human".
