The young generation doesn't find its stars in the movies, but on their cell phone screens. Thanks to the Tubecon trade fair, they can get very close to their idols.
If you've ever wondered what young people are up to on their smartphones these days, you no longer have any excuse for being clueless: in the middle of the Christmas vacations, on December 29, the Hallenstadion in Zurich will host Tubecon, a trade fair featuring around 60 Swiss Youtubers - stars you can touch, so to speak.
And as there are stars and influencers for every topic and interest group on YouTube or Instagram, the program is extremely varied. For example, the transsexual Raffa from Graubünden from the YouTube channel "Raffa's Plastic Life" gives make-up tutorials. Singer-songwriter Anna Smith invites you to practice your voice. And if you want to practise beatboxing, hip-hoppers Gian and Valon are the right people for you. Visitors to the fair can take part in nine workshops with their idols.
Various panel discussions will be held at the same time. The talks and lectures will cover sport and health, nutrition, mental health, but also social media-related topics such as the dos and don'ts on Instagram or how to perfect your posing for a photo.
Even the "socially dead" can still learn something
So there is something for everyone, even for parents and grandparents who often have nothing to do with social media - by the way, the technical term for these people is "social dead". At the "Parent Park", teenagers can drop their parents off at a kind of kindergarten or "Parent Park" so that they can get a taste of the social media world. Here, representatives from Pro Juventute, for example, provide information on media skills. Blogger Rita Angelone and bodybuilding influencer Mischa Janiec also show and explain that you can earn money and make a living with a social media presence.
But the most important thing is that the whole thing will simply be a good show. The trade fair has been a huge success with thousands of visitors since it was first held in Finland in 2014 - and there's another trump card here in Germany: The evening will be hosted by comedian and presenter Stefan Büsser, among others, who has a huge fan base not least thanks to his YouTube analyses of the trash show "The Bachelor".
