SnowpenAir: Dancing and partying to Gölä and Gotthard at 2000 m above sea level.

Series: Festival Summer 2017 | Episode 3: SnowpenAir

The festival "summer" starts in spring at SnowpenAir: Silvia Bickel, Head of Corporate Communications, talks about the 20th anniversary, delicious treats and Andreas Gabalier.

What is special about your festival this year?
SnowpenAir is celebrating its 20th birthday this year. To mark the occasion, the concert on Kleine Scheidegg will take place over two days. In addition to Andreas Gabalier and Gölä, Gotthard are among the main acts. Gotthard's appearance at this year's SnowpenAir couldn't be more fitting: they were there at the birth of the concert series in 1998 and are celebrating an anniversary themselves this year: 25 years of Gotthard.

Which acts are you particularly proud of?
With Andreas Gabalier, we were able to secure Austria's most sought-after musician for the SnowpenAir at an early stage. This is one of only three appearances in Switzerland that he will be playing this year.

What criteria did you use to put together the line-up?
Urs Kessler, the founder of SnowpenAir and CEO of Jungfrau Railways, acquired all the bands himself this year. As always, he placed great value on a mixture of internationally renowned acts, successful Swiss artists and local bands for the line-up.

What else is on offer besides the music? Culinary, for example? Other attractions?
There is an extensive catering offer in the concert arena. This ranges from a pizza tent to Asian, Swiss and Mexican dishes, a barbecue and a crêpes tent. There will also be other delicacies and a wide selection of hot and cold drinks. Before and after the concert and during the breaks between the acts, a DJ will provide a party atmosphere.

A visit to the SnowpenAir can be combined with winter sports in the Grindelwald-Wengen region. A 1-day Jungfrau Sports Pass is available at any Jungfrau Railways station on presentation of a combined ticket, concert and train journey. This is valid on the day of the concert and is non-transferable. The arena is located in the middle of the ski area.

Festivals do not have a dress code. Is there anything you should still bear in mind when it comes to clothing and outfits?
The SnowpenAir takes place in the snow at over 2000 meters above sea level. Good shoes are definitely recommended. Although it can be T-shirt temperatures when the sun is shining, you should certainly take a warm jacket with you. Sunglasses and sun cream should also be on the list. However, if you forget something, you can buy both jackets and sun protection at Kleine Scheidegg.

How would you describe your festival briefly and concisely in a tweet (max. 140 characters)?
SnowpenAir - the highest open air festival in the snow. International and Swiss bands rock the stage in front of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
