A look into the future: We present 7 talents of the future who have already caught our eye and of whom we are sure to hear and see a lot more in the coming years.
Laura Bretan: talent of the impossible at "Art on Ice"
How is that possible? That's what everyone without exception asks when they hear Laura Bretan sing. At the age of 15, the little American has the vocal power of a great opera singer. One of Laura Bretan's first appearances was on "America's Got Talent". As a shy 13-year-old girl, she swept the jury and audience off their feet. She only just missed out on winning the final. Thanks to the songs in the fairy tale "Sleeping Beauty", Laura realized at the age of seven that she not only had a choral voice, but could also sing really well. At the age of eleven, the young talent began to sing arias. The singer believes that she touches the hearts of audiences with her voice and hopes to infect other teenagers with her enthusiasm for opera.
She got her talent from her parents. Mabel is the daughter of Neneh Cherry and Massive Attack producer Cameron McVey. However, the music student did not get her first song signed to a major label. Mabel secretly released "Know Me Better" on the independent music platform Soundcloud. It wasn't long before she was discovered by a radio DJ. That was two years ago. The first EP "Bedroom" has since been released. A mixture of hip-hop, soul and R 'n' N. The mini-album features songs with rapper Kojo Funds and her equally famous half-brother Marlon Roudette ("When The Beat Drops Out"). "It's been such an interesting journey for me. I learned how to unite my different sides," says Mabel. "I'm English, Swedish and Sierra Leonean. I used to see that as an obstacle, but now I see it as a beautiful thing."
If it grooves, then it's good. Loéfen's favorite instrument is undoubtedly the bass. The songs of this alternative pop band are powerful and light at the same time. Sensuality is at the heart of the songs. No matter whether it's a fragile ballad or a gripping indie rock song. Loéfen wants to convey sounds and feelings. The singer of the five-piece band provides the groove herself. With bass in hand. The St. Gallen musician's faithful companions in spirit are elephants. As a symbol of happiness, they accompany Loéfen on her journey through the varied sound, which is based on role models such as Kate Bush or David Bowie.
Lina is a color bomb. The 18-year-old is currently exploding with joy and is not only making her own everyday life more colorful. The pretty Hanoverian speaks directly from the hearts of teenagers - as a singer and actress. Because before things got rolling with music, Lina aka Larissa Strahl played the lead role in the movie "Bibi & Tina". But as befits a role model, the newcomer also completed her A-levels. Her catchy pop sound is infectious. The joy is infectious. Several hundred thousand clicks on YouTube and victory in the 2013 songwriting competition "Dein Song" on KiKA prove that Lina is no retort pop starlet. The young German talent is now on tour and has released her debut album "Official". "Lina is actually a WhatsApp songwriter," says her producer Peter Hoffmann (Tokio Hotel, Falco). "She's constantly sending song ideas and lyrics as voice messages or little selfie videos." That's how it goes when you make music at the cutting edge.
Born 16 years ago, landed her first hit three years ago. Billie Eilish has achieved in a short space of time what others dream of for a lifetime. The Californian is already a star in the USA, but an insider tip here. Still. If you close your eyes, it's hard to believe that a teenager is singing. Billie Eilish's voice sounds mature and is reminiscent of Lana Del Rey. Her songs seem dreamy and don't seem to fit in at all with the newcomer's highs. "I'm so bored" or "Don't laugh at me", she sings. She makes a face like three days of rainy weather. It is precisely the melancholy that captivates the listener. It gives the songs beauty and power. The track "Bored" is part of the Netflix series "13 Reasons Why", the EP "Don't Smile At Me" is already in the top 200 of the US charts. Billie Eilish remains modest. "I don't take any of this for granted," she revealed in an interview.
Imitator becomes famous singer. This is what happened to Jacob Sartorius. The teenager caused a sensation with his lip-sync videos on the musical.ly platform. The then 13-year-old was soon followed by millions of users. The American used this opportunity to take off as a pop singer. His debut single "Sweatshirt" reached number 90 in the Billboard charts in 2016, while his record "The Last Text EP" reached number 32. Now Jacob Sartorius has really blossomed into a teen star. Girlfriend or not? There is a heated debate on the net. Next year, the singer will be touring the UK. And the 15-year-old's manager Mama is standing by him in case he can no longer save himself from the female fans in Europe.
A third man is unwelcome at The Hydden. "He sits in the audience. That gives us more space on stage and creates gripping melodies in pure format," says the duo. "Post-blues paired with wild rock, simply without desert." Royal Blood, Queens of the Stone Age or even Metallica in simplified form: this is the sound of Roli Würsch and Roger Hämmerli, which consists solely of vocals, guitar riffs and driving beats. The duo from Zurich and Nidwalden have just rocked Germany. Back in Switzerland, the Two Man Army's journey continues with the album "Anthems for the Wild and Hungry" in their luggage.
