"No one has to add seasoning, but rather be careful not to burn their tongue with this spicy mixture of tradition and modernity," says the Extrafish bio. The quartet is self-confident - and rightly so.
As soon as the play button is pressed, the dancing leg automatically swings along. The mix of Balkan sounds, gypsy and jazz sounds easy, no matter how sophisticated the songs are. The four guys on guitar, saxophone, double bass and drums are talented. They combine traditional melodies from the East with their very own sounds and rhythms.
It comes as no surprise that the eight nimble hands come from the Lucerne Jazz School. So it doesn't matter that Extrafish play world music without any ethnic background. With "Simplify This Fish", the band now delivers their debut album.
With their song Hyperactive Dschingisbalkan Level 1, the Extrafische were recently guests on BalconyTV Zurich.
"When composing, I have the mood of typical Balkan music in my head and look for my own way of expressing it," explains singer and guitarist Valentin Baumgartner. Together with saxophonist Andi Bissig, drummer Adrian Böckli and Jonas Künzli on double bass, this results in the typical songs of Extrafish. This is what it sounds like when Switzerland gets involved in the Balkans.
