Starradar: Marey - The greatest folk talent

13/12/2016 written by Benedikt Lachenmeier
The cello saws, the guitar beats a calm rhythm and is carried by a gentle voice. Marey's music sets a melancholy mood.

Everything falls silent when singer Maryam and cellist Aurèle begin to play. You just want to listen to the dreamy folk of the Biel duo and drift off into another, better world.

Marey's music has already silenced an entire auditorium and finally brought it to applause. And that was the audience of "Switzerland's Greatest Talents". Juror Susanne Kunz gave them a "wow", Divertimento-Jonny outed himself as a fan and Bligg praised the duo for their "own fingerprint". This can be heard above all in Maryam's beautiful voice, which sounds as if the singer really does come from somewhere where folk is at home.

Thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign, Marey has now realized her debut album "Harvest" - a collage of dreamy songs with the "Pyjama Song" as a breakout. Distorted guitars, gallop beat: yes, the Biel-based duo can also rock out (country-style).

The track "Who Am I" from the EP "The Harvest" can be heard here.
