What did you think when you received the request from "Art on Ice"?
I have to say, we've had it on the table a few times. But until now, an album has always been released in March. It's great luck that it worked out this year. My best friend is a dancer and a huge fan, she always wanted to take me to the show. Now I can invite her for once.
You and James Blunt are the main acts. Musical opposites?
Yes, but in the end they're both pop - and we're both multi-faceted. It's a completely different sound. Nevertheless, I think it fits together very well.
What would you like to go out on a limb for?
What I would like to experience is skydiving. That would be out of my comfort zone. It would take a lot of effort. The good thing is that I don't have to jump myself (laughs out loud).
You already know about the adrenaline from the stage ...?
That doesn't make it any better. It's still nerve-wracking. It depends on what kind of concerts it is. When we're on tour and playing at festivals, I feel free. I can be with my band, it's like my living room. But when I sing a song live on TV for the first time, I can be uhhh nervous. Then the pump goes off.
Your new album will be released in April 2019. Where is your musical journey taking you?
I'm following on from my last album. It will continue in the vein of "In the End", a pop album. It's extremely important to me that it sounds organic, I like using electronic sounds, but not always full throttle. A bit of soul and funk should never be missing. I've also worked with different artists this time, you can hear that.
With the new songs in your luggage, you will then go on tour and play at festivals.
Definitely! That's the only reason why I'm releasing an album! Working on the album really gets to you. You could tweak it forever. Finally going on stage with it - that's my motivation, new songs, to be on the road with my band again.
"I like the touring routine. I don't usually have such a regular daily routine."
A tour is exhausting.
Yes, I try to do sport. I go for walks and love getting massages and going to the spa. Otherwise I like to read. The strenuous part is traveling around, because I like everyday life. Because every day is the same. You arrive, have breakfast, do a
soundcheck, hang out, have dinner and in the evening you're on stage. I don't normally have that in my life, such a regular routine over three to four weeks. I enjoy that!
What do you take with you to make it cozy on the road?
My best friend is a mom of two and gave me her breastfeeding pillows. I like to take them with me because they're so nice to snuggle up in and do my back good. Emil the plush donkey is always with me, even my meditation cushion comes with me.
