Sam Smith (25) released his first solo album three years ago. He is now celebrating worldwide success with songs such as "Stay with Me" and "Money On My Mind".

The artist

Sam Smith's career began in October 2012 when he featured on the single by British band Latch. On May 26, 2014, he released his first solo album "In The Lonely Hour". "I can only speak for myself and say how important George Michael, Elton John or Boy George were and are for me as a young gay man." One day after the release of the single "Too Good At Goodbyes" from the new album "The Thrill Of It All", the music video has already reached 180 million clicks.

The verdict

The album "The Thrill Of It All" is - as you would expect - emotional and very personal. Smith admits that he is a very melancholy guy: "I'm either very, very happy or really sad. I have these two extremes". But Smith doesn't allow himself to be treated for it. He uses music to cope with his sadness. You can tell that from his songs: The lyrics are honest and come from the heart. Smith makes it easy for us to empathize with the emotional states of the songs. He sings about general topics and shows us that he is also a completely normal person.
