They became famous via YouTube: with a cleverly staged flash mob in a Munich shopping arcade four years ago, the former flatmates created a large fan base in no time at all, with their video being clicked on over ten million times. Since then, the Alpenboygroup has been storming the charts and selling out huts and halls live.
event.: How would you describe your music?
We call it "folk pop" or "new Bavarian wave". We love to sing the very old songs of our country and to see how we can bring this music into the future and mix it with a modern sound.
You are currently on a promotional tour for your new, third album "Geiles Himmelblau". What's new on it?
It's the first album on which we present our own songs, again with a band. There are a lot of different songs on it, party hits and ballads.
What are your next plans?
We are looking forward to traveling to Brazil on our tour. We're playing the second biggest Oktoberfest in the world there. There we want to combine lederhosen with samba music. Our aim is for the whole of Brazil to dance Schuhplattler with us.
"There is a Voxxclub fan club in Brazil, in America, in Hungary and in Japan."
Will you manage that?
Of course we will! The Brazilians obviously know our flash mob video that went around the world. There is now a Voxxclub fan club in Brazil, America, Hungary and Japan. The Japanese are particularly weird: they recorded a flash mob video themselves and sent it to us. That was very funny.
