The legendary Zurich lake crossing attracts up to 9,000 swimmers into the cool water on July 2, 2025. The 1,500-metre course from Mythenquai to Tiefenbrunnen promises pure swimming pleasure without any time pressure.
The 41st City of Zurich Lake Crossing is just around the corner and with it one of the most spectacular popular sporting events in Switzerland. If the weather and water temperature cooperate, the lake crossing will take place on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. If conditions are unfavorable, July 9 and August 20 are available as rescheduled dates.
The lake crossing is a highlight of Zurich's summer: up to 9,000 people swim a distance of 1,500 meters from the Mythenquai lido across Lake Zurich to the Tiefenbrunnen lido. The special thing about it: it's not a competition, it's about the pure pleasure of swimming in the unique setting of Lake Zurich.
Good swimmers aged 12 and over can take part. Young people between the ages of 12 and 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Safety is a top priority anyway: Boats with lifeguards are stationed every 50 to 70 meters. 100 people ensure safety on the water, while a further 380 helpers provide support in the start and finish areas.
8,558 participants took part in the last lake crossing in summer 2024 - 300 more than the previous year. Since the first lake crossing in 1985, a total of 149,060 people have taken part in the Zurich city lake crossing.
