Chansons in German, performed by a unique voice, peppered with humour, irony and a lot of depth: this characterises the music of Annett Louisan. But the successful artist is not afraid of musical experiments either.
The German singer was born on 7 April 1977 under the civil name Annett Päge in the Hanseatic city of Havelberg. At the age of 12, she moves to Hamburg with her mother. After graduating from school, Annett Louisan began studying painting at the local art academy. To finance her studies, she works as a studio musician. This brought her soft voice and fine intonation to the attention of producer Frank Ramond, whereupon she sang the single "Das Spiel" in 2004.
Quasi unintentionally, she achieves great success with it: the song climbs to number 5 in the charts in November of the same year and stays there for a whole 15 weeks. By this time, the artist was already calling herself Annett Louisan - a tribute to her grandmother's first name.
With her debut she becomes the darling of the German pop scene
"Das Spiel" becomes part of her debut album "Bohème", which is one of the most successful first albums of the German music scene. Awarded gold and platinum, Annett Louisan goes on tour and captivates audiences everywhere. With her second album "Unausgesprochen" (2005), the artist already showed her joy in experimenting. Less poppy, but with elements of waltz, bossa nova and tango, she follows on from her previous successes.
Annett Louisan has continued to develop her style over the years, bringing other talented musicians and songwriters on board. On the album "Kitsch" (2020) she sings songs in English for the first time. Time and again, the singer also releases entire records with cover versions of well-known songs, to which she lends a charm all her own through her interpretation.
The artist herself compares making music with painting, her former hobbyhorse: just as you paint with a brush, you can also do it with words. She therefore regards her own music as "painting pictures with words". More than one million records sold and Annett Louisan's shows, which are always very well attended, underline that she also knows how to inspire her audience with this unusual creative approach.
Louisan also convinces on stage
Whoever can get hold of tickets for one of Annett Louisan's live performances can look forward to an entertaining concert evening with depth. On stage at the latest, the singer makes it clear that she can by no means be reduced to her girlish image. Her voice may sound sweet, but the song lyrics often contain subtle and sometimes biting lines. It is not uncommon for tears to flow when the artist sings touching lyrics in which she incorporates her own emotions and life experiences.
But it is not only meaningful and profound on stage. The singer usually performs with her five-piece band, and with just a few chords and a groovy beat, the group also quickly switches back to lighter and more humorous topics. The concerts mix current songs and popular classics. After an enjoyable and emotional evening, the audience leaves the hall exhilarated and, it is almost certain, already looking forward to Annett Louisan's next show.
