Johannes Oerding is one of Germany's most successful pop singers. The success concept of the Hamburg-born singer by choice lies in his inspiring lyrics, which inspire people to dream, reflect and empathise. Many of his singles and albums have been awarded platinum and gold status. Johannes Oerding can also often be seen as a judge in music casting shows on television.
Johannes Oerding was born in 1981 in Münster, Westphalia. During his school years, he was a member of a school band and gained his first stage experience there. At the age of 17, Johannes Oerding was discovered by a Hamburg music producer at a city festival. Shortly afterwards, the producer signed a record deal with the young musician, after which Johannes Oerding moved to Hamburg.
Even though his music career is now within reach, Johannes Oerding is quickly brought down to earth in Hamburg: According to his label, the young musician still lacks the necessary maturity for a release. Johannes Oerding is not discouraged, enrols in a degree course in business administration and continues to gain stage experience along the way.
Practice makes perfect - the breakthrough
It takes ten years until Johannes Oerding finally plays on the big stages. He gets to perform in the opening acts of some national and international megastars like Simply Red and Ich + Ich - an honour for the Westphalian. Now the general public also becomes aware of the musician.
Johannes Oerding's shows in the support of his idols pay off. 2009 sees the release of his first album "Erste Wahl", which immediately enters the German album charts at number 39. Finally the singer goes on solo tour as the main act. The first tour is completely sold out after only a few weeks. And even today, if you want to get hold of a ticket for Johannes Oerding, you have to be quick.
Two new albums and appearance at the Bundesvision Song Contest
In 2011, the second album "Boxer" follows, which only just misses the Top 10. After the release of his next album "Für immer ab jetzt", Johannes Oerding is invited by Stefan Raab to perform at the Bundesvision Song Contest. Oerding does not hesitate for long and accepts. With his participation in Raab's music competition, he fulfils a big dream and gets to play in front of 50,000 spectators for the first time.
Johannes Oerding is showered with gold and platinum awards
Although Johannes Oerding "only" comes second in the Bundesvision Song Contest Song, 2013 continues successfully for him: To the delight of the fans, Johannes Oerding records his tour, which is sold out to a large extent, with the live album "Für immer ab jetzt - Live + Deluxe".
As more than 100,000 copies of his new album "Alles brennt" are sold, Johannes Oerding is awarded a gold record. A little later he tops this success and also goes platinum for "Alles brennt". The single of the same name reaches number 20 in the German charts and is the most successful single to date by the Hamburg native.
Johannes Oerding's fifth album "Kreise" is released in 2017. Two years later he goes one better with "Konturen" and reaches number 1 in the album charts for the first time. The single "An guten Tagen" also becomes a radio hit and is awarded gold status.
The leap into television: Johannes Oerding as a juror
In the successful Vox format "Sing meinen Song" Johannes Oerding gains his first TV experience. As he is well received by both the broadcaster and the viewers, he is quickly hired as host and from now on guides the participants through the show. Johannes Oerding is then also allowed to take part as a judge in "The Voice of Germany" and searches for young musical talent in the broadcast format.
